And so concludes our free sample chapter and with it this director’s commentary. I hope you enjoyed this little peek behind the blood-soaked curtain at the humble beginnings of our monster chums. The Necessary Monsters graphic novel will be available from First Comics in the autumn, from either their soon-to-launch website or your nearest full-service comics retailer. The site will be updated with full details of how to purchase the book as soon as they become available, so do keep an eye on us, won’t you?

Panel 1
Despite being pinned to the wall by his neck, Gravehouse appears to have no trouble breathing and shows a complete lack of worry at his current predicament.
Gravehouse: Ah, Tuesday.
Gravehouse: If I were you, I’d be less concerned as to how I got in your dream.
Panel 2
Focus on Tuesday, Gravehouse’s words coming from off panel. Her eyes open wider with shock as she realises what he’s saying.
Gravehouse: And more worried about how I got into your apartment.
Panel 3
Same shot and layout as the previous panel but now we’re back in the real world and looking at the face of the suddenly awake and very much human Tuesday Jones. Her expression echoes that of her dreaming demon form, eyes open wide with shock.
Panel 4
Big panel and our first cliff-hanger chapter break. Tuesday Jones springs up in bed, letting out a startled shout at the site of Gravehouse standing imposingly at the foot of her bed. We need the audience to understand that this is Tuesday’s apartment we’re in, not Joey’s, so if we can see a few details of the place, that would be good. Tuesday is a single woman living alone - smaller bed, much less ritzy than Joey’s place and generally less well kept.
Creeping Tuesday: Aaah!
